What is the Yipeng Lantern Festival?
The Yipeng Festival is one of Thailand's most magical festivals, held every year in Chiang Mai.
Thousands of people gather to release lit lanterns into the night sky, which are said to carry away bad luck and are decorated with good luck wishes and prayers. It's an incredible sight to see as the beautiful glowing lanterns float upwards into the sky, creating a magical atmosphere.
In addition to the lantern ceremonies, there are also parades around the Old City gate, firework displays and traditional Thai dance shows with live music. Food vendors also offer plenty of tasty Thai cuisine.
This is a spectacular event and something you won't want to miss if you're visiting Chiang Mai.
