What is Vivid?

Vivid is Sydney’s most anticipated winter event, when for three weeks each August, the city is transformed by mesmerizing light displays. ‘Lighting the Sails’ is one of the festival highlights, with a choreographed light show  projected onto the ‘sails’ of the world-famous Sydney Opera House.

With a theme of Light, Music & Ideas the outdoor light displays are accompanied by hundreds of music and ideas events at the Sydney Opera House and venues across the city. Previous headliners have included The Cure, Ice Cube, Iron & Wine, Florence and the Machine and Herbie Hancock. Ideas events cover diverse topics such as democracy, environment, technology, fashion and business with leading experts and thinkers from around the world.

Need to Know

Visitors often think of Sydney as a year-round sunny paradise, and while winters are typically dry and bright, evening temperatures can get down to 11-13C/50-55F, so pack some warm clothes to make the most of your Vivid experience.

Also keep in mind that headline acts sell out quickly, so make sure to check the calendar of events and book early to secure your spot!
