What are the Tall Ships Races?
The Tall Ships Races are a series of spectacular sailing events that take place in different ports across Europe each summer. Each year there is a new route and a series of nominated host ports. The race is broken up into legs between host ports and often includes a ‘Cruise-in-Company’ section in the middle – which is not a race, just a relaxed sailing experience for a few days. These events are mainly aimed at young sailors between the ages of 16-25 and take roughly six weeks from start to finish.
Need to Know
You don’t have to be a crew member to enjoy the races! The races usually visit at least five cities, so there are several opportunities to join in the festivities and of course check out all the tall ships in the harbor!
Did You Know?
Tall ships are traditionally rigged sailing vessels with tall masts and sails that were used before the invention of steamships.
