What is Sydney New Year’s Eve?

The vibrant city of Sydney is one of the Australia's most popular destinations to celebrate New Year's Eve.

Every year over a million people from all over the world make their way to the city and its surroundings to ring in the New Year and be part of its iconic celebrations.

There is a full schedule of entertainment and activity at Sydney Harbor including performances, live music and special events such as the smoking ceremony which kicks off the evening. The ceremony is conducted on the Harbor by a Tribal Warrior. It is a ritual of purification and unity, cleansing the space for the new year.

At Midnight the crowds can watch the world's best fireworks show featuring pyrotechnics launched from the Sydney Harbor Bridge, Sydney Opera House and barges in the harbor.
