What is the Sapporo Snow Festival?

Experience a real winter wonderland at the Sapporo Snow Festival in Japan!  

The festival started in 1950 when local students displayed six snow sculptures.  Now, this is considered to be the largest winter event in Sapporo, which attracts more than 2 million local and international visitors every year.  

There are marvelous ice statues, in all shapes and sizes, dotted all around the city. Don't miss this wonderful event on your next winter visit to Sapporo.

Need to know

The festival has two sites, Odori and Susukino. It is about a 10-minute walk between the two.

Did you know?

At the Susukino Site, visitors can find the ice sculpture contest, along with illuminated ice sculptures, and an even an ice bar to purchase drinks.
