What is the Ryder Cup?

The Ryder Cup takes place every two years and is a men's golf competition between teams from Europe and the United States.

The tournament is held biennially in Europe and then in the United States, and has provided for some of the most exciting moments in golf history. 

Two 12-player teams face each other in a Match Play formula, in doubles and singles. At the end of the 28 matches, the team who has surpassed the score by 14 is declared the winner. 

Need to know

Tickets can be purchased in advance online but tend to sell out quickly due to high demand. Alternative ways of securing tickets include hospitality and travel packages or official Ryder Cup Premium Experience tickets.

Did you know?

There is no prize money for the Ryder Cup. Instead, the winning team receives the Ryder Cup trophy, which is named after British businessman Samuel Ryder, the founder of the Ryder Cup.
