What is La Tomatina?

La Tomatina is a world-renowned festival held in the Valencian town of Bunol.

Locals and visitors brave enough to get involved in one of the world's most famous food fights throw tomatoes at one another in this incredibly colorful and messy event.

La Tomatina is held on the last Wednesday of August, during a week of fantastic festivities in Bunol. This makes it a spectacular time to visit a very special part of Spain.

It has to be seen to be believed and is a bucket-list experience to either partake in or witness first-hand. 

It truly is an event you will remember for a lifetime and something few of your friends will be able to say they have experienced. 

Need to know

The event attracts around 20,000 people each year from all over the world, throwing approximately 120 metric tons of tomatoes!

Did you know?

La Tomatina started by accident all the way back in 1945, when there was a parade taking place and a few youngsters made one of the participants fall, hitting everything that got in his way. The angry crowd began throwing tomatoes that they found on a nearby vegetable stand and the rest is history!
