Calcio Storico is a combination of soccer, rugby, wrestling and martial arts.
The footballers must wear medieval costumes for the game, according to the tradition that was established back in the 16th century. It is thought that the event dates back more than 2000 years.
The 4 teams of 27 players are all from different areas of Florence and each fight for a victory using both hands and feet for passing and controlling the ball.
There are 2 semi finals that take place 10 days before the Final game. The winner is rewarded with a calf that symbolizes physical victory.
