What is the Bourbon Classic?
The Bourbon Classic is a unique celebration of Kentucky’s bourbon heritage held in Louisville. There are opportunities to sample rare and top-shelf bourbons and events where master bartenders and acclaimed chefs are paired with a sponsor distillery to compete for the best cocktail and best small plate. Connoisseurs or those hoping to sharpen their palette might be interested in one of the Bourbon University workshops which range from tastings and cocktails to cooking with bourbon.
Need to Know
Louisville is NOT pronounced Loo-ee-vil or Loo-is-vil – to a native it’s Loo-a-vul – it's a bit tricky, so we suggest you check out some YouTube videos and practice before you go.
If you want to add even more bourbon to your trip – Louisville is home to 10 distilleries (with plenty more outside the city). Other sites of interest include Churchill Downs (home of the Kentucky Derby), the Louisville Slugger Museum and the Muhammad Ali Center.
Did You Know?
95% of the world’s bourbon comes from Kentucky and all bourbon must be made in the United States. For a whiskey to be called a bourbon, the mash – or grains from which the drink is distilled – must be at least 51% corn, additive-free, and stored in charred new oak barrels.
